Whilst I can appreciate the gowns, I really get excited about the hair and makeup at awards nights.
Some of the world’s best makeup artists work with the celebs on creating the perfect look to compliment not only their features but also the gown. So much thought, planning and work goes into each look, as many of the styles go on to be trends for the season.
Below I’ve selected a few of my favourite hair and beauty looks from the Emmys, along with a few hints and tips on how to recreate the look.
KAT DENNING’S PORCELAIN SKIN AND BERRY BEAUTIFUL LIPS
Complimenting her gorgeous milky white / porcelain skin, Kat Denning’s rocked a strong berry-red lip that was the perfect accessory to her J. Mendel gown.
Love Kat’s Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick? Well you can buy it here.
LAUREN PARSEKIAN’S SLEEK AND SMOOTHY HAIR
Lauren Parsekian, fiance to Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul just shone with beauty at the Emmy’s this year. Her makeup was simple, yet gorgeous and her hair was amazing! I would kill for hair like that.
Recreate that silky, smooth look by using Toni&Guy’s Shine Gloss Serum and Glamour Moisturising Shine Spray.
CLAIRE DANE’S GLOWING SKIN
Look by: Matin Maulawizada, Global Artistry Director for Laura Mercier
Claire Dane’s absolutely glowed at the Emmy’s with a look that was old Hollywood glamour after a sun-filled holiday. Matin enhanced the mummy-to-be’s natural glow using Moisture Supreme Foundation in Sunny Beige and added a healthy flush to the cheeks with Crème Check Colour in Oleander. http://www.lauramercier.com
GIULIANA RANCIC’S CLASS UP-DO
I love Giuliana’s updo, a nice change from her usual wear-it-out style. It’s neat, elegant and a little different from all the other curled up do’s going around on the night.
Her hair was coiffed at the front, the pulled into a tight ponytail which then looks like it’s tucked back under. A gorgeous look that I hope to recreate soon. Watch this space…
GINNIFER GOODWIN’S SEXY TWIGGY EYES
Look by: Mai Quynh, Celebrity Makeup Artist
Ginnifer’s eye makeup was inspired by Twiggy and created to give an edgy contrast to her very glam and ladylike Monique Lhullier dress.
Mai said “I applied mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Entourage (black shade) to the outer creases of Ginnifer’s eyes, outlining her top creases and top lash lines using the mark Flat Eyeliner Blush. Then, I made sure to wing out the shadow/liner for a deep, dramatic cat eye effect. I framed her eyes by applying two coats of mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black to her upper lashes.”
SOFIA VERGARA. ENOUGH SAID.
Hair by: Jen Atkin, Clear Scalp & Hair Celebrity Hairstylist
Jen Atkin wanted loose sexy curls with plenty of volume for Sofia. Using a volumiser and velvet rollers on the roots and then spraying the rest of the hair with texturising spray and blow dry. Once hair was dry Jen used a 1 1/4″ curling iron to set the hair and combed the waves through with fingers. Ta-da!
Makeup by: Kayleen McAdams (yes thats Rachel McAdams little sister)
According to Hollywood Life, Kayleen was inspired by chocolate and caramel. ”On the eyes, I started by applying Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Brown Smolder all over the lid and followed that with the Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Espresso just at the root of the lashes. I also used Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Espresso on the bottom lashes and set that liner with Queen Collection 1-Kit Shadow in Copper Penny. I applied three coats of LashBlast Volume Mascara on both the top and bottom lashes to lengthen and add volume.”
For the lips – they filled the lips with LipPerfection Lip Colour in Captivate and then went back over the edge with LipPerfection Lip Liner in Smoky (to fill them out and keep them in place). Then topped it all off with Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Sugar and Spice. SIDE-DO, NUDE LIPS
Look by: Aviva Perea
“I prepped her hair with Alterna Caviar Styling Tonic and Phyto Phytovolume Actif Maximising Volume Spray and dried her hair using my fingers – no blowout for this kind of texture. Then, I curled one-inch sections around a one-inch curling iron and I alternated directions. Next I coated her hair in Oribe Dry Texturising Spray and parted her hair from the ears up. Then, I braided the hair towards the right and twisted the braid into a figure eight to create a base for the undo and started pinning it in place. I took the top portion and randomly twisted the rest in place, intentionally leave the front parts loose to keep the undo modern.” Source: Teen Vogue

I know I am a week late to this one, but after watching Fashion Police I would have to say I loved Julianne Moore who is always perfection to me and I would also say Nicole Kidman who took a risk with her dress. Worst dressed I would have to say goes to the creator of ‘Girls’ Lena Durham just didn’t suit her body shape at all!
