Easter Table Ideas

As a child, Easter was up there with Christmas as one of my favourite days of the year. We’d wake to find a chocolate bunny at the foot of the bed and then embark on a huge Easter egg hunt in the garden or throughout the house. Mum and Dad would get a little too carried away with hiding the eggs and we’d still be finding them months later.

Easter time also meant a trip to the Easter Show. Every year mum and dad would say they didn’t want to go because of the crowds and the expense and offered to give us $10 each to go and get lollies from the supermarket instead, but the four of us would beg and promise to be on our best behaviour if they took us (so gullible) and eventually they would agree.

Off we’d go to the show, with mums mobile number written on our arms in texta, and we’d enjoy a day of rides, corn on the cob, traditional lemonade and of course show bags. Once we were home from the show we used to empty our bags on the floor and start trading lollies and silly toys. That is probably one of my favourite childhood memories.

As we got older the Easter egg hunts stopped and if we went to the Easter Show it was with friends, not family. It’s been at least ten years since we last celebrated Easter together, though the “Easter Bunny” still brings us the same Cadbury bunny every year.

I miss celebrating Easter with family so I’ve decided that I’m going to start it up again, starting this year with an Easter breakfast. I have some recipes in the works and last night I began researching Easter themed centrepieces and table settings. Here are some of my favourites.

Do you celebrate Easter? What’s your favourite Easter memory?

Would anyone know where to purchase the little bird’s nests featured in the pic above? I live in Australia.

Hi Steph, this was a lovely post about Easter. You have articulated very well that feeling of nostalgia & sense of family over Easter. I had the same thing in regards to the Easter Show and the swapping of showbag items. Being an adult, you really lose that sense of childlike excitement which is a bit sad. Maybe it all changes and returns again once you have a child of your own.

When I was little my mom used to sneak into my room at night to leave me the most amazing easter basket filled with everything from chocolate eggs, colouring books, toys, marshmellow peeps etc and always I would find a half eaten carrot from the ‘easter bunny’ that visited me in the wee hours of the morning. Those were some of my fondest memories as a child as well, and now that I’m a parent I’m finding new excitement in easter and every other holiday again. There is nothing quite like the joy in seeing something for the first time (again) through a childs eyes to bring new meaning to everything
