Postcards from Miami
My first trip to South Beach was everything I had expected and more, bright, loud and fun! Come and check out my Postcards from Miami.
Miami was exactly what I expected. Exactly! White beaches, colourful buildings and plenty of palm trees.
SD and I were in Miami for work and only had two days to explore South Beach, before we had to make our way up to Sunrise. We stayed in the very beautiful 1 Hotel which was smack-bang on the beach and just a few blocks away from Art Deco District.
After breakfast by the pool, we grabbed our camera and ventured out into the very hot and humid Miami weather. We walked along the boardwalk – with the beaches and cruise ships on our left and the high-rise hotels on the right.
When we spotted the cute beach huts we slipped off our shoes and wondered along the shore, I was madly snapping away at all the crazy colours.
According to Google Maps we knew the Art Deco District was near, so we cut back up through the buildings and found ourselves on the city’s famous Ocean Drive.
The iconic pastel-coloured art deco buildings, the old cars and the loud music. We had made it!
Restaurants, bars, boutiques and shops line Ocean Drive and are packed with people – tourists and locals alike.
We walked past Gianni Versace’s home (and sadly, his death place) and tried to spot The Birdcage, but to no avail.
It may not have been the sunniest of days, but South Beach was still spectacular – a visual feast!
I look forward to spending more time in Miami, exploring Ocean Drive and dining at my new favorite South Beach restaurant, Pubbelly Sushi.
Tell me dear reader, have you been to Miami? Do you want to go?
