Homemade Lemon, Lime and Bitters
Now you can make this popular drink at home, my recipe for Homemade Lemon, Lime and Bitters is now live and just in time for #weekendwinedown.
Yesterday I spent a day in the garden. I picked a few kilograms of olives, trimmed overgrown herbs and collected a few dozen lemons and limes. A day well spent and I was so excited about all the fresh produce grown in my very garden.
The olives are now sitting in brine, the herbs have been shared amongst the neighbours and now I just have to figure out what to make with all those lemons and limes. I can confirm that there will be a lemon drizzle cake recipes being share here in the next week, so stay tuned.
I decided to use limes to make today’s #weekendwinedown and one of my all time favorite drinks – Homemade Lemon, Lime and Bitters. I’m not using any old bitters though…
Before I embarked on my Celebrity Cruise Alaskan adventure, I spent a day exploring food heaven, Pike Place Market. One of the shops I was particularly taken with was DeLaurenti, a specialty food and wine store. It’s hard to explain my love of grocery stores but all I can tell you is that I get very excited.
I could have bought half the shop but knowing that I had little room in my luggage, I was reserved and only purchased two bottles of bitters, one of those was Mr Bitters Pink Grapefruit and Agave Bitters.
Mr Bitter’s is Australia’s first bitters company created by a couple of bartenders and onlybitters.com. They created and sell six unique flavours – Negroni, Cocoa and Macadamia, Tropical, Fig and Cinnamon, Honeyed Apricot and Smoked Hickory and, my favorite, Pink Grapefruit and Agave.
The bitters is made from fresh grapefruit peel and natural agave nectar from Tromba tequila. It’s so delicious in margarita’s, aperitifs and other summery drinks, including the good ol’ Lemon, Lime and Bitters.
This recipe is refreshing and delicious. I can’t believe I haven’t tried to make my own Lemon, Lime and Bitters sooner.
Now tell me dear reader, which bitter’s flavour would you pick?
