Top Pick Face Masks

I have a new skin regime and it includes applying face masks twice a week, to cleanse the skin and add maximum hydration. Here are the products I’m using.

Regular readers will know that I’ve recently overhauled my skin regime. Not only have I changed products, but I now have a routine that I stick to and that routine includes applying face masks twice a week.

Face masks are essentially a shot of goodness for your skin. They’re usually quite rich in nutrients, hence why they should only be used once or twice a week.

Now, there are four goals I hope to achieve by using masks regularly:

  • Cleanse and purify my skin
  • Reduce the size of pores
  • Maximise hydration
  • Brighten my complexion

I spent hours and hours researching the best masks and finally selected six. Now that may seem like a lot of products, but I don’t use them all at once – I pick and choose the products, depending on the condition of my skin.

Ultraceutical’s Ultra Clear Purifying Mask and Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask are the only two products I use during both weekly mask routines. The Ultraceutical’s product complete cleans and clears the skin and Clinique’s Charcoal Mask unclogs those nasty little pores.

During the first session of the week I’ll use Avene’s Soothing Moisture Mask and during the second I’ll use Frank Body’s Glow Mask.

Every second night I’ll apply the Dr Jart+ Water Max Sleeping Mask and then once a fortnight I’ll treat my skin with SK-II’s luxe Facial Treatment Mask.

Below I’ve share the details of each mask and provided links, so you can purchase the masks that take your fancy.

Tell me dear reader, are you going to join me in overhauling your skin regime?

Ultraceuticals Ultra Clear Purifying Mask

This is the cleansing mask that is used during treatments at Jocelyn Petroni and not only does it feel so good on, but it removes every skerrick of makeup and smells incredible.

This creamy (non-drying) formula feels like silk when applied to the skin and absorbs and exfoliates to unclog those nasty pores and leave skin clean and clear.

Directions: Use once or twice a week. Apply evenly to the skin and leave for 10 or so minutes. Remove with warm water.

Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask

I’d been looking for a charcoal mask for a while, but wanted to steer clear of those peel masks. I was thrilled to find this one. Like a cream it’s applied to the skin with your fingers. The charcoal draws out the dirt, excess oil and impurities and leaves pores looking teeny tiny.

I had been using this product for two weeks before I went for a facial and Diandra, my therapist, said she’s never seen my pores smaller. If that isn’t enough proof for you then I don’t know what is!

Directions: Apply to forehead, t-zone and chin and leave for ten or so minutes. Wash off with warm water and a cloth.

Avène Soothing Moisture Mask

I had a mask for cleanding, for removing pores and for adding a glow, but I really needed one to add moisture. I found this one in my local Priceline and decided to give it a go.

Filled with Avène Thermal Spring Water, this mask really does add moisture and restores balance to the skin. I can notice a huge difference in the days I forget to wear the mask.

This is a gentle formula and is suitable for sensitive skin.

Directions: Apply once or twice a week, after you’ve cleansed and exfoliated your skin.

Shop the product: AU$44.99 from Priceline / US$25.71 from Beauty Expert

Frank Body Glow Mask

This is another great mask for adding moisture and a glow to your face. It also smells delicious!

Filled with lots of goodies including goji berry extract, shea and cocoa butters, Arabica coffee seed oil and cranberry and raspberry seed oils, this mask hydrates, pumps the skin and brightens. What’s not to love about this?

Directions: Apply once or twice a week and leave on for five minutes.

Dr Jart+ Water Max Sleeping Mask

I researched hydrating beauty products for hours and kept coming across the Dr Jart+ Sleeping Mask. I read dozens of reviews and all raved about this hydrating gel, so I had to try it for myself.

This leave-on mask acts as a protective barrier, locking in moisture and nutrients while you sleep, which is when the body repairs itself.

Hyaluronic acid replenishes the skin’s needed moisture, while olive leaf and cranberry ingredients boost elasticity.

Directions: I apply this every second night after applying a generous helping of my Ultraceuticals Moisturiser. I can always tell that my skin looks a little fresher the next morning. I love this product!

SKII Facial Treatment Mask

While you may initially balk at the price, I promise you get what you pay for. This 100% cotton mask is one of SK-II’s best sellers and once you’ve used, you’ll see why.

Each mask is drenched with vitamins, amino acids, minerals and pitera (a natural by-product of yeast fermentation) and revitalises skin while providing intense hydration. The results are instant – as soon as you take that mask off you’ll notice a much brighter complexion!

Interesting fact: The Japanese like to use the facial treatment masks every day for more than 90 days prior to their wedding day.

Directions: Apply the mask and leave on for 5-15 minutes. Massage any remaining liquid onto your neck. Once you remove the mask, massage remaining liquid into the skin.

Shop the product: AU$138 from Sephora (AU) / US$95 from Neiman Marcus
